1. Defense doesn’t give up a touchdown

After giving up a touchdown in the first half of an eventual blowout of Central Michigan, the defense seemed to clamp down and figure itself out in the final 30 minutes.

We saw guys like Dillon Tatum, Malik Spencer, Cal Haladay, Jacoby Windmon, Jalen Sami, Aaron Brule, Zion Young, Charles Brantley, and Jaden Mangham making plays all over the field. It was an impressive defensive outing for a unit that needed to prove itself after a lackluster 2022 season.

Scottie Hazelton drew up the correct game plan to contain Bert Emanuel Jr. and the Spartans held Central Michigan’s offense to under 225 total yards.

That momentum is going to carry over into this game against a Richmond team that struggled offensively in the opener against Morgan State. The Spiders scored just 10 points and I think they’ll struggle even more against the Spartans on Saturday.

Michigan State holds Richmond out of the end zone, making it six straight quarters without surrendering a touchdown.
