Michigan State football opened the 2023 season with a resounding win over Central Michigan and it’s hoping to tune up one more time before facing a top-10 Washington team.

The Spartans host Richmond in Week 2 and it’s a good chance for them to fix some mistakes that were made in the opener. Clean up the turnovers, play-calling, and offensive line push and fans will start feeling much better about a potential Week 3 upset over Washington.

Before we get ahead of ourselves, let’s dive into some bold predictions for the Richmond game.

3. Maliq Carr bounces back in a big way

In his first game of the season, Maliq Carr had plenty of expectations. Pretty much everyone expected him to be a focal point of the offense, but he struggled mightily against Central.

In fact, Carr dropped a few passes on his way to a modest opening game. He had just one reception in the second half four eight yards and a touchdown. His 8-yard touchdown catch was impressive, however, as he grabbed the ball over a defender and was able to tap one foot inbounds for the score. The acrobatic catch was a nice sign after an otherwise forgettable performance.

Carr is going to bounce back on Saturday afternoon, catching five passes for 83 yards and a touchdown. He won’t have any drops either.

While this doesn’t sound incredibly bold, this will be one of his best games as a Spartan.
