It’s officially game week and Michigan State football coach Mel Tucker still hasn’t named his starting quarterback against Central Michigan.

After a hotly-contested quarterback battle during fall camp, many believe that Noah Kim and Katin Houser are neck-and-neck for the starting job and the fanbase is pretty much split on who they want to start. Do you go with the veteran who was recruited by Mark Dantonio or the younger guy who was an Elite 11 finalist and who’s Tucker’s guy?

The answer seems obvious, but the fact that the quarterback battle has gone on this long shows just how torn the staff is.

And Tucker even admitted that he doesn’t have an answer ready for who QB1 is heading into Friday’s season-opener against Central (he may know, but he won’t reveal it).

This has the fanbase itching for answers but we won’t find out who QB1 is until the offense takes the field on Friday night at Spartan Stadium.

Gut feeling on Michigan State football’s QB1

What’s my gut feeling on the quarterback job? I honestly feel like Kim is going to get the first nod against Central Michigan and we might see Katin Houser either mixed in or splitting snaps. I do believe the staff has made an internal decision and they’re keeping it under wraps until the opener.

This doesn’t necessarily mean that Kim is going to keep the job throughout the year, but I think we’ll see a trial run, of sorts, in the first two games.

I think Houser has the higher ceiling, but Tucker may go with the safer choice in Kim.
