Right when you thought Michigan State football was going to turn the corner, the preseason AP Top 25 was released and brought fans back down to earth.

Excitement is still building for Michigan State in 2023 and many believe the Spartans will improve drastically from the 2022 nightmare. But they’ll have to go through an absolute gauntlet of teams in order to get the program back on the right track.

I’ve seen predictions anywhere from 3-9 to 9-3 and everything in between.

But the Spartans will have to find a way to steal a win or two from some top-10 teams in 2023.

According to the official preseason AP Top 25 which was released on Monday at noon, Michigan State will not only play a handful of ranked opponents, but four of the top-10 teams in the nation.

Which top-10 teams will Michigan State football play?

The first top-10 team that the Spartans will face will be Washington in Week 3 and the Huskies are ranked No. 10 overall, just ahead of teams like Texas, Tennessee, and Notre Dame. Clearly, the media is high on the Huskies led by Michael Penix Jr.

They’ll then face No. 2 Michigan on Oct. 21 and that will be the most anticipated game of the year. East Lansing will be buzzing.

After that, Michigan State travels to Columbus to face preseason No. 3 Ohio State and it ends the season at Ford Field against No. 7 Penn State.

That makes three of the top-7 preseason AP Top 25 teams on the schedule and four in the top 10.

The other ranked team on the schedule for Michigan State this season is Iowa at No. 25. Minnesota received six votes in the preseason AP Top 25.
