Another Spartan Dawg Con is approaching and Michigan State football fans are hoping that this event yields some commitments much like it did last year when Jordan Hall committed at Mel Tucker’s house.

Unfamiliar with Spartan Dawg Con? It’s one of the coolest new traditions under Tucker as former players and coaches make their way back to East Lansing as Mel hosts them for a fun weekend.

While there will undoubtedly be some recruits in town, there’s also going to be a legendary figure.

That figure is Mark Dantonio.

It’s only fitting that the summer before the 10th anniversary of the Rose Bowl team, Dantonio comes in for Spartan Dawg Con and helps maintain that family atmosphere in East Lansing.

Seeing Tucker and Dantonio getting along just warms the heart.

Michigan State football could benefit from more Dantonio

While the program is moving forward with Tucker and it has adopted a new social media presence that wasn’t quite there under Dantonio, it would be good to have the latter around the program more.

Michigan State thrived under Dantonio until the final years but people seem to gravitate toward the former head coach and if he’s selling the program to recruits at Spartan Dawg Con, it would make Tucker’s job easier. Having a legendary coach around the program with his football knowledge would not be a bad thing.

I won’t get too ahead of myself here, though. It’s just a Spartan Dawg Con visit.

Still, I love seeing Dantonio come around and wish he did it a little more often because he’s always welcome back in East Lansing.
