1. Quarterback

This was the biggest no-brainer on the team. There’s just no way that the quarterback battle won’t be at the top of everyone’s minds heading into the season.

Gone is Payton Thorne who actually found himself in the middle of the quarterback battle this spring before entering the transfer portal. He was Michigan State’s starting quarterback for two seasons and the fact that he wasn’t guaranteed a third probably forced him into rethinking his career in East Lansing. He’s now at Auburn.

That has opened the door for guys like Katin Houser and Noah Kim to push for the starting job. They each bring something different to the table and they could both succeed in 2023.

Who will be the guy, though?

Mel Tucker hasn’t tipped anyone off so no one truly knows who the starter is going to be. Kim has the experience but Houser has a higher ceiling. It’ll be interesting to see who wins the job.
