Michigan State basketball reportedly talking Baylor matchup in 2023-24
Tom Izzo is hard at work at the non-conference slate for Michigan State basketball with the season just a few months away. The Spartans are looking to play another tough schedule with one of their deepest rosters in the Izzo era.
So far, the Spartans have teams like Duke, Arizona, Butler, and Oakland finalized on the schedule for 2023-24, but there could be another big name added.
Who could that be?
According to a report from The Detroit News’ Tony Paul, Michigan State has had discussions with Baylor about a matchup in Detroit for the upcoming season.
That would mean that Michigan State would get a chance to rematch the Bears after they pulled away with a win during the 2021-22 season in the Bahamas. Guys like AJ Hoggard, Malik Hall, Tyson Walker, Mady Sissoko, and Jaden Akins all played in that one. Akins actually had one of the best games of his freshman season against the Bears.
Unfortunately, Baylor won by 17 after holding just a two-point lead at the half.
Michigan State basketball could use this test
Izzo loves to test his teams early in the season and adding a team like Baylor would just go to prove that notion.
So far, Michigan State will be playing two potential top-10 teams and Baylor could be in the 15-20 range to start the season and potentially flirting with the top 10 by the time this potential matchup rolls around (no date has been rumored and nothing is confirmed).
One thing is for sure, though: Michigan State fans would flock to Little Caesars Arena to watch this matchup between perennial powerhouses.
