Michigan State football: 3 breakout candidates on offense for 2023
We are officially a month and a half away from the start of the 2023 Michigan State football season and if you’re excited, you’re not alone.
The Spartans are ready to prove that the 5-7 season from 2022 was a fluke and get back on track with another bowl season under Mel Tucker. There’s not much hype around this Michigan State team, but that’s just how the Spartans like it.
Which offensive players are going to help turn things around and exceed expectations as breakout candidates in 2023?
There were a few receiver options that I flipped back and forth between but I ultimately ended up picking Nebraska transfer Alante Brown because of one single tweet:
Darius Snow made sure to let everyone know that Brown is about to “put up crazy numbers” this season and if that doesn’t get you excited about a potential breakout, I don’t know what will.
Brown was at a disadvantage for the past few seasons at Nebraska. He was playing for a coaching staff that was on the hot seat the entire time he was there and now he gets to play for Courtney Hawkins who has put two straight receivers in the NFL. I can see him having a huge year because of the receivers coach upgrade.
Speed seems to be his calling card and Michigan State is going to need that this season with Jayden Reed gone. He has a chance to be the team’s No. 1 receiver.
His breakout depends on the quarterback situation.
