If there’s one thing that fans love to talk about leading up to the season, it’s non-conference matchups. For Michigan State football fans, there’s always talk about who should be added to future home-and-home scheduling.

The Spartans have played a good chunk of the Power Five over the course of the program’s history but there are still some that have yet to take the field against Michigan State.

In fact, there are 46 FBS programs that have never faced the Spartans. If that’s surprising to you, you’re not alone. I figured Michigan State had played just about everyone.

But with conference realignments and potential future bowl matchups, that number could dwindle down soon.

Michigan State football vs. Independents

There’s only one Independent team that Michigan State has yet to face and that’s UConn. That’s right, Nathan Carter’s former school has never lined up across the Spartans. The Huskies joined the FBS in 2000 so there hasn’t been a ton of opportunity for Michigan State to schedule them and they’ve only played in seven bowl games since then.
