I think we can all agree that the Michigan State football team took a step back offensively last year. Points, touchdowns, and yards were all down from the previous year, resulting in losses and pessimism throughout the fanbase.

Whether it was injuries, missed assignments, or coaching mistakes, there was no shortage of blame to go around. But with a new season comes optimism and reasons why this year will be better.

Here are three things that need to happen for this offense to have a better output for the 2023 season.

1. Average 30 points per game

The Spartans scored 24.4 points per game last season which was eighth in the Big Ten, however, it ranked only above lowly Rutgers and Indiana in the Big Ten East. Getting to 30 points per game would rank them fourth in the entire Big Ten, trailing only the powerhouse teams in the East (Michigan, OSU, and PSU).

I love Mark Dantonio with all my heart, but the idea of Tressel-ball and winning games 17-13 is a thing of the past.

The glorious 2021 Michigan State team averaged 31.8 points per game, and I know a lot of that was Kenneth Walker III, but this team must find a way to score more points than their opponents, which usually results in a win.

Now the question becomes how to score more points, much like a goal shouldn’t be “lose more weight” but rather I want to lose weight, so my goal is to walk 10,000 steps a day or consume 0 liquid calories. These sub-goals are there to help you for the main goal.
