It’s that time of year again: rumor mill time. And Michigan State basketball coach Tom Izzo is never safe, it seems.

Like clockwork, Izzo was listed as a potential head coaching candidate for another team.

And also like clockwork, it was an NBA rumor.

According to a list of potential Suns head coaching candidates on CBS Sports, Izzo is one of the options for Mat Ishbia and the organization after letting Monty Williams go.

The list came out a few days ago, but it still shows that the Izzo to the NBA rumors will never die, no matter how many times the Hall of Fame head coach says he’s a Spartan lifer. This seems to happen every other offseason and the fact that Ishbia is the Suns’ owner has only made things worse this time around.

The CBS writer, Sam Quinn, had this to say about Izzo and the Suns:

"Tom Izzo has been pursued by NBA teams before. He’s even been pursued by Michigan State boosters before, as Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert tried to hire him in 2010. But he’s never been chased by one of his own former players at Michigan State. Mat Ishbia, a walk-on for Izzo’s 2000 championship team, could appeal to him on a level that his persistent enemy, Gilbert, likely could not."

Clearly he believes that Ishbia might be enough to reel him away from Michigan State.

Tom Izzo is a Michigan State basketball lifer

In my opinion, this is a ridiculous list because, well, Izzo has already stated he has no interest in the NBA anymore and he’s at Michigan State until he retires.

He’s not exactly one to waver on that decision.

Izzo is getting closer to retirement and it just doesn’t seem like he wants to tackle a new task with NBA players which may or may not respond to his coaching style.

Don’t fret, folks. This is just your annual Izzo to the NBA rumor.
