The competition

Samori Toure (7th round, 2022, Nebraska, 25 years old)

Much like Bo Melton, Samori Touri was a 2022 seventh-round pick. He recorded two starts last year, finishing with five catches for 82 yards and a touchdown. Touri, a Montana transfer who finished his career in Nebraska, outplayed his draft position last season. He is also similar to Reed, being 6-foot-1.

Touri recorded one rush for four yards and five catches for 42 yards against the Spartans in 2021. He also returned a punt for negative yardage and fumbled.

Touri is the first receiver listed who might give Reed some competition. With Touri starting a few games and having the versatility that Reed also has, this could be a close race. Seeing that Reed is younger and was more productive in the Big Ten, I think that Reed beats out Touri in the race for what is currently WR3.

Romeo Doubs (4th round, 2022, Nevada, 23 years old)

Romeo Doubs was a draft pick last year and had a quiet but good first year, recording over 400 receiving yards and 42 catches. He is the same age as Reed, being just over two weeks older. Doubs also recorded three touchdowns in his rookie campaign.

Doubs and Reed will be fighting for the WR2 slot this year, and I know it is early and a rapid reaction considering Reed just got drafted, but I think Reed slots over Doubs. Reed will likely move back inside in three-receiver sets. I think Reed is better at route running and separation and will offer more upside for Jordan Love in when there are two receivers on the field.
