Jaden Akins: A-

I usually reserve an entire page for bench players, but since Jason Whitens started for Jaden Akins and only played two minutes, it just made sense to keep the latter in line with the starters.

Coming off the bench for the first time in months, Akins looked really solid in 25 minutes of play and he stayed red-hot from the floor. He is playing as well as anyone on the team right now and he finished 4-for-7 from the floor and 3-for-4 from deep. He finished with 13 points and three rebounds.

It’s amazing to see what can happen when players gain confidence and can stay healthy. Akins has gone from a 4/5 option to a third option and he’s still averaging 17 points per game over his last three while shooting an unbelievable 71 percent from 3-point range in that span.

He is playing his best basketball at the perfect time and a confident Akins is bad news for the rest of college basketball as he could be a problem in the NCAA Tournament.
