Michigan State basketball got back on track on Thursday evening, beating No. 23 Rutgers to end a two-game skid. But unlike most seasons, this losing streak didn’t feel like the Spartans were that far off from a couple of big wins.

The Spartans lost at Illinois by nine after controlling the entire game and then lost by one at home to Purdue. Both losses could’ve easily been wins.

But the Spartans bounced back against Purdue and will have a chance to pick up another big win against preseason Big Ten title favorite Indiana on Sunday.

Let’s get bold.

3. Spartans shoot near 50 percent from deep again

The last time I made a prediction about Michigan State shooting well from distance, the Spartans went 0-for-7 from three against Illinois. I’d like to think it was just an unlucky coincidence.

Michigan State is coming off its best shooting performance since Big Ten play began this season, however. The Spartans made 12-of-22 threes in a win over Rutgers and shot over 50 percent from the floor. I think that type of sharp shooting will continue at Indiana on Sunday.

The Hoosiers have had the Spartans’ number over the years but I think Michigan State’s offense does enough to give it the best chance to win.

I think Michigan State makes 8-of-17 threes, shooting just under 50 percent from deep.
