Beating Rutgers on Thursday night, Michigan State basketball moved into a second-place tie in the Big Ten standings, two games behind Purdue. That loss to Purdue really stings because the Spartans had a chance to make a move up the standings, but I digress.

Now that the Spartans have shown they can play with anyone even without Malik Hall in the lineup, they’ll need to keep this solid play rolling through the weekend at Indiana.

Before we dive into any future games, let’s take a look at the report card for the Spartans from the win over Rutgers on Thursday night.

Mady Sissoko: C-

Mady Sissoko really struggled on Thursday night against Rutgers’ bigs.

He did finish with two points, four rebounds, and a block, but he was out-worked for multiple boards on the Rutgers offensive glass and he just looked lost on the offensive end. He did have a nice bucket, but his other two attempts were off and he has to stop the 3-foot jump shots — just go up strong, Mady.

I don’t think his performance was a sign of regression or anything like that, I just think he needs a game to get his confidence back and maybe that’ll come against Trayce Jackson-Davis over the weekend.

Mady has to be better offensively and on the glass if MSU is going to win anything of importance this season.
