Michigan State Football: What’s on a Spartan fan’s ideal Christmas wish list?
8. A quarterback commit in the 2023 class
In an ideal world, this would be where the Spartans land Dante Moore. However, that ship has sailed, and the Spartans appear to have set their target as Sam Leavitt, a recent Washington State decommit from Portland, Ore.
The good news for MSU is that the Cougars just lost their offensive coordinator to North Texas. However, Washington appears to be losing their quarterback commit to Ohio State and has recently offered Leavitt.
The Spartans currently sit without a quarterback in the 2023 class following the decommitment of Bo Edmundson in November. As anyone who follows recruiting cycles or has built a team in an NCAA Football video game will tell you, it is a high priority to have a quarterback in each recruiting class.
Fortunately for the Spartans, Michigan State landed Katin Houser last class. Many people, myself included, believe he is the future of this program. Houser barely saw the field last year, with two pass attempts and his lone completion totaling two yards and a 13-yard scramble, all coming against Akron.
The Spartans also have Payton Thorne, one year removed from a record-setting season as a Spartan, and Noah Kim on the roster. However, with Hamp Fay still listed as a tight end, the Spartans will be entering 2023 with Houser as the only quarterback from the last three classes. If it wasn’t for Houser’s sky-high potential, it would be time to hit the panic button.
We have quite a few stars in our recruiting class already, but a quarterback would be the tree topper.
