Transfer portal season is upon us, and Michigan State football fans are salivating at the potential of landing some top-tier prospects who could immediately improve the roster.

Fans could see plenty of movement this offseason as a number of players have already entered the portal such as Chase Carter, Jack Stone, Dashaun Mallory, and Michael Fletcher. But with all of those departures, Mel Tucker will need to add some depth.

We will undoubtedly see more players enter the portal, but what about guys coming in?

On Monday, the Spartans offered Texas A&M transfer and former top-40 defensive lineman from the 2021 recruiting class Tunmise Adeleye.

On Tuesday, he announced that he’d be taking an official visit to East Lansing.

This is a big development for the Spartans.

Michigan State football looking to make a splash in the portal (again)

Justin Thind of 247Sports and The Athletic estimated that Michigan State has seven spots open for the portal and the rest of the 2023 class, but that number should grow in the coming weeks with more players likely to transfer or declare for the NFL draft.

Getting a visit from Adeleye is a great start to the portal era.

There are plenty of big names in the portal right now and Michigan State should be taking a look at just about every position group from the defensive line to the offensive line to the secondary.

Tucker will have his work cut out for him this offseason if he wants to improve the roster and make another drastic turnaround after going 5-7 in 2022. He knows that’s far short of expectations in East Lansing and needs to be better.

The portal will help expedite that turnaround.
