Michigan State seems to have turned a corner in recent weeks, relying on a strong defense and timely offense to outlast Wisconsin and Illinois. Over the last three weeks, the Spartans allow only 5.1 yards per play, a mark that would be top-40 in college football on the season. Rutgers has a strong defense too, but their offensive ineptitude should give the Spartans a path to covering the modest spread.
The Scarlet Knights are a disastrous 127th (out of 131) in yards per play (4.1), averaging only 3.6 over their last three games. Michigan State, meanwhile, is 74th at 5.4 yards per play and gains 5.8 per play at home.
In the last six matchups between these teams, the Spartans are 4-2 against the spread (ATS). But perhaps the most compelling reason to back Michigan State is how dominant it is at home.
