Michigan State football: Report card for clutch overtime win over Wisconsin
Receivers/Tight ends: A
This was probably the most impressive position group on the field on Saturday between both sides. Michigan State’s receivers and tight ends were darn near unstoppable for this Wisconsin secondary.
I’ll start with the tight ends because I always start with receivers.
Daniel Barker was relatively quiet but he made a first-down catch for eight yards. His fellow tight end, Maliq Carr, made one of the biggest plays of the game, catching a pass over the middle and taking it 72 yards inside the 10-yard-line. He helped Michigan State cap off a 97-yard drive with his huge play and you really love to see him finally utilize that athletic advantage.
Now onto the receivers.
Jayden Reed was the star. He had nine catches for 117 yards and the game-winning touchdown in overtime. He had his typical Moss-ing moment to win the game and he finally looked like his old self. Oh, and he had a touchdown pass in the first overtime to Keon Coleman. Reed has 186 yards and two touchdowns on 13 catches over the past two games. Love to see it.
Keon Coleman, too, had a huge game with five catches for 79 yards and two huge touchdowns late in the game — one in regulation and one in overtime. He continues to be a massive mismatch for defensive backs.
This group was fantastic.
