Well, it was somewhat expected, but Michigan State football’s 49-20 loss to Ohio State on Saturday was still disappointing.

There was hope — although lessening by the day — that Michigan State would be able to pull off the upset and spoil Ohio State’s season, but it didn’t really have a chance after the first 10 minutes. The Spartans did tie things up at 7-7 after a Charles Brantley pick-six, but then it was all Buckeyes after that.

The defense looked awful, the offense was anemic, and the special teams were shaky.

What’d we learn from this fourth straight MSU loss?

3. Elijah Collins is the team’s most consistent runner

Once again, we realized that Elijah Collins deserves RB1 snaps and he once again led the team in rushing. OK, it was only nine yards and they came on two carries, but he still gave the Spartans arguably their two best runs of the game against Ohio State.

I get that the offense had to abandon the run because it wasn’t working, but how do we know that it wouldn’t work with Collins getting a bulk of the carries?

Collins needs to get more touches because you know he’s going to give it his all and probably give Michigan State 5-6 yards per touch because that’s all he’s done in limited action over the past two years.

It’s time to feed Collins more.
