3 Reasons Michigan State Will Upset Washington in Week 3
By Joe Summers
The No. 11 Michigan State Spartans won four of their last five games as underdogs and hope to notch another upset victory in Seattle this weekend against the Washington Huskies. There are a few reasons why I like the Spartans to cash as +130 underdogs, but let me first tell you about FanDuel Sportsbook’s $1,000 risk-free bet offer for the big game:
$1,000 No-Sweat Bet at FanDuel

Now, here are three reasons why the Spartans will march all over the Huskies in Week 3:
3 Reasons Michigan State Will Upset Washington
Rushing Attack
Led by Jalen Berger, Michigan State’s ground game is churning yards at an elite level. Berger has 227 yards and four touchdowns through two games, and overall the Spartans already have 457 yards (5.7 yards per carry) with seven scores.

It doesn’t matter if Payton Thorne struggles again if the running backs keep performing at this level. When you get nearly six yards per rush, you can control the clock and zap the will from your opponent. Washington surrendered 147 rushing yards to lowly Kent State, foreshadowing what’s to come on Saturday.
Betting Trends
The Spartans are a bettor’s best friend of late. With outright wins in four of their last five games as underdogs, Michigan State is always feisty with Mel Tucker at the helm.
Prior to crushing soft opponents in the first two weeks this year, Washington had covered the spread just once in its last eight games as a home favorite, losing four of those outright.
Michael Penix Jr. is dangerous, but I’m not willing to trust the Huskies over a Spartans squad that thrives when overlooked.
Don’t forget that Washington is just 4-8 against the spread in its last dozen games against the Big Ten, losing three straight outright.
Defensive Pressure
Michigan State’s defensive front is nasty, already recording 12 sacks through just two games. Jacoby Windmon has 5.5 by himself, and the untested new-look Huskies offense will have to quickly adjust to deal with such a ferocious defense.
Defense is king, and the Spartans will have the best defender on the field. As a whole, the group has 14 pass deflections and seven forced fumbles this year. Again, it’s only been two weeks.
Look for Michigan State’s defense to prove the difference and give the Spartans a fifth win in their last six games as underdogs.
We can bet on Michigan State without concern though, thanks to FanDuel Sportsbook’s can’t-lose $1,000 no-sweat bet offer. Don’t forget to claim your $1,000 risk-free bet before it’s too late. Odds of +130 would pay out $1,300 on a $1,000 bet, and that kind of payday would certainly make a Spartans win that much sweeter.
