Michigan State football: Jacoby Windmon continues to rake in accolades
Jacoby Windmon has had two huge weeks to start the 2022 Michigan State football season and he has the accolades to prove it.
For the second straight week, Jacoby Windmon dominated on the field for Michigan State football, and just like after the opener against Western Michigan, he received some accolades.
In Week 1, he had four sacks and seven total tackles against the Broncos and that earned him national defensive player of the week honors as well as the Big Ten’s defensive player of the week. He wowed everyone with his pass-rushing abilities and took home the awards that he earned.
How would he follow up that performance in Week 2? Oh, by just recording five tackles, 1.5 sacks, and three forced fumbles against Akron.
This was good enough to earn him Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors for the second straight time and now he’s just piling up the accolades.
Windmon has been the main beneficiary of the Brandon Jordan Effect as he now has 5.5 sacks and 12 total tackles off the edge in two weeks and he’s on pace to finish 2022 with 33 tackles and 72 total tackles. Obviously this pace isn’t realistic to keep up against tougher opponents, but he’s shown the ability to cause problems against opposing offensive lines and he’s been living in the backfield.
The spin and ghost moves that he’s been seen using to get to the quarterback have been borderline unblockable and the Spartans are going to hope that continues under Jordan’s tutelage.
Windmon is already looking like one of the best defensive players in college football through two weeks and it feels like only the beginning.
