Michigan State football is just days away from kicking off the 2022 season. Let’s dive into some bold predictions for the Spartans.

Anyone else ready to run through the wall after realizing the Michigan State football season kicks off in just two days?

The excitement surrounding this season is palpable and Michigan State enters the year ranked No. 15 and as a serious Big Ten title contender. However, a ton of experts are projecting the Spartans will take a step back this year which, honestly, isn’t all that surprising. Michigan State loses Kenneth Walker III and had the nation’s No. 130 pass defense last year.

But I think big things could be ahead for the Spartans this year.

Let’s get bold ahead of the 2022 season.

5. Pass defense improves to top 70

For most teams, this may not be a bold prediction, but for Michigan State, which finished No. 130 in passing yards allowed per game in 2021, this may be overly bold.

Michigan State allowed just under 325 passing yards per game last season which was last in the nation and that was shocking given the fact that they had plenty of talent in the secondary. It just never lived up to its potential and injuries ran rampant.

The Spartans bring in Ameer Speed and Charles Brantley returns to full health as well. Xavier Henderson, Ronald Williams, Marqui Lowery, Chester Kimbrough, and Angelo Grose are all back with plenty of experience as well and I believe this group is going to improve drastically, shooting up 60-plus spots from last season into the top 70 for pass defense.

This is going to improve the defense immensely.
