Michael Penix Jr. was just named the starting quarterback last week over Sam Huard and that could either be a good thing because of Michigan State’s familiarity with him or a bad thing because he torched the Spartans in 2020. Either way, Mel Tucker has seen him before and should know how to game plan for him in Week 3.

This is going to be a tough game because it’s the Spartans’ first road contest of the season, but I think we’ll see a similar result to last year’s Miami game. It will be tight for three quarters before Michigan State drags the Huskies into the deep water in the fourth.

Prediction: Win (3-0)

Coming home to face Minnesota isn’t exactly the easiest way to follow up a road trip, but if Michigan State is going to contend this season, this is a game it has to win.

Minnesota may very well win the West this season, especially after witnessing Nebraska crumble again in Week 0, and PJ Fleck has a talented squad returning with Tanner Morgan, Chris Autman-Bell, and Mohamed Ibrahim along with an elite defense. This is going to be one of the toughest games on the schedule, but Michigan State proves it’s a contender with a strong win here to kick off Big Ten play.

Prediction: Win (4-0, 1-0 Big Ten)
