Former Michigan State football star Shilique Calhoun’s NFL future is in danger after the 30-year-old edge rusher was cut by the Chiefs.

Entering his seventh year in the NFL, former Michigan State football star Shilique Calhoun was hoping to catch on with the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Chiefs signed him and it felt like a fresh start after two seasons and 25 games with the New England Patriots in 2019 and 2020.

Before he could even take the field in the preseason, the Chiefs cut Calhoun on Monday.

Though five seasons (he didn’t record any stats in 2021), Calhoun has 48 career tackles and 2.5 sacks and he’s now 30 years old so his NFL future may be in doubt. While he was an All-American defensive end at Michigan State, he has struggled to really catch on in the NFL, to everyone’s surprise. I think every Spartan fan expected him to excel in the NFL but that just hasn’t happened.

Still, a six-year career in the league is nothing to scoff at. Plus, he has played in 10-plus games in three out of the five years in which he has recorded stats.

Another team would be wise to pick him up because I think he still has plenty to offer seeing as the last season he played (2020) happened to be a career year for him. He posted 16 tackles and two sacks in 10 games with the Patriots.

Every MSU fan is rooting for Shilique because he deserves to be great somewhere. His future in the league seems to be in danger, though I hope I’m wrong.
