Replacing Kenneth Walker III is not going to be an easy task, especially since he’s about to be a star with the Seattle Seahawks.

When Kenneth Walker III took the field for the first time as a Spartan last fall, it was apparent that he was going to be a star.

All offseason, we heard about the Wake Forest transfer and how he looked the part of an every-down back and he was going to surprise some people. He quickly proved those coaches and teammates who sang his praises right, taking the first handoff of the 2021 season to the house against Northwestern.

Walker scored three more touchdowns and finished the game with 264 rushing yards, taking not only East Lansing but college football by storm.

All signs pointed to him being a Heisman frontrunner for a good portion of the season, but the Ohio State game seemed to crush those dreams. He still went on to win the Doak Walker and Walter Camp Awards and was drafted in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft by Seattle.

The Seahawks’ backfield was expected to be loaded with the addition of Walker and some fans opposed the pick. But with Chris Carson retiring suddenly and Rashaad Penny awaiting his opportunity, Walker has a chance to take over as RB1.

He made a good case on Wednesday.

This is high praise coming from one of the Seahawks’ top beat writers and it just goes to show that what we saw in East Lansing wasn’t just limited to college success.

Everyone in East Lansing is rooting for Walker to succeed and if he can seize this opportunity with Carson retiring and Penny getting some rest, he could be RB1 soon.

I have a feeling he’s going to have a special NFL career.
