Pro Football Focus is at it again, disrespecting Michigan State football players for a second straight day with a preseason position group ranking.

Alright, Pro Football Focus, we’ve got beef.

Just one day after disrespecting Payton Thorne by not even listing him in the preseason top-50 quarterback rankings, the site disrespected yet another Michigan State football star.

It’s bad enough that PFF believes that a quarterback who finished with over 3,200 yards (23rd nationally), 27 touchdowns (18th nationally), and the nation’s 17th-best QBR is not a top-50 quarterback in college football, but now they believe that there are six better receivers in the Big Ten than Jayden Reed.

SIX.

Look, I’d understand if PFF believed that there were 2-3 better receivers in the Big Ten heading into 2022, but six? Not even in the realm of possibility.

PFF released their list of the top 25 receivers in college football for 2022 and Reed is No. 20. Yes, apparently there are 19 better receivers in the nation than Reed who broke out in a big way in 2021.

Ahead of him in the Big Ten?

  • No. 1 — Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Ohio State (fair)
  • No. 13 — Parker Washington, Penn State (somewhat fair)
  • No. 14 — Dontay Demus Jr., Maryland (foul)
  • No. 16 — Rakim Jarrett, Maryland (foul)
  • No. 18 — Mitchell Tinsley, transferred to Penn State from WKU (foul-ish)
  • No. 19 — Ronnie Bell, Michigan (foul)

Reed had better numbers than Washington, Demus, Jarrett, and Bell last season and Tinsley came over from Conference USA — although he is a major talent.

The Big Ten had five receivers last season who eclipsed 1,000 yards and Reed was one of them. Three of them are no longer playing college football which means he’s the Big Ten’s No. 2 returning receiver in terms of production. He was also No. 4 in yards per reception in the conference and No. 4 in receiving touchdowns. Yet there are six better receivers heading into 2022? That’s a wild claim.

Just like Thorne, Reed is going to go out and prove that this is a disrespectful list and potentially push Smith-Njigba for Big Ten Receiver of the Year.

And did you know Thorne and Reed are childhood friends?
