Marcus Bingham Jr. finds new home with Dallas Mavericks
Former Michigan State basketball star Marcus Bingham Jr. has become the latest Spartan to find a spot in the NBA, joining the Mavericks.
Just one day after the NBA draft, Michigan State basketball saw another former player find a new home in the form of Marcus Bingham Jr.
It wasn’t all that surprising to see him go undrafted especially since he really just started to come into his own as a senior for the Spartans, but teams had to love the upside of adding Michigan State’s all-time blocks leader.
The Dallas Mavericks decided to pull the trigger and sign him on Friday.
Bingham Jr. finished his Michigan State career with 168 total blocks and finished his senior year averaging 2.2 per game. He only averaged 4.7 points and 3.8 points per game over his career, but his senior year was easily his best as he put up 9.3 points and 6.3 rebounds per game on top of those 2.2 blocks. He was an all-around valuable asset to the Spartans.
That improvement from his first three years to his final season made many believe that he might come back to continue that improvement, but he felt it was time to move on.
Would another year in East Lansing have gotten him drafted? Possibly.
Either way, it’s good to see him getting a chance because he could be a solid prospect in the G League and could impress during the Summer League. He’s an elite rim protector with the ability to stretch the floor.
Maybe Bingham will surprise some people, but signing with the Mavs was a good first step.
