Kenneth Walker III was selected in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft but the Seahawks almost couldn’t get ahold of him to tell him the news.

For a young athlete, draft day has to be the most stressful time imaginable.

You sit there, waiting to hear your phone ring with a team on the other line telling you that they plan on taking you with the next pick. That phone call may never come for some NFL draft prospects, and the undrafted free agent journey begins.

Sometimes, the NFL team suffers through the stress, and such is the case with Kenneth Walker III.

When a team calls a draftee to tell them that they plan on taking them with a certain pick, they expect that player to answer the phone. Walker’s phone was not so kind to the Seahawks as the front office was sitting on pins and needles as their calls kept going to voicemail with the clock ticking on their pick.

Obviously, he wasn’t purposely ignoring the phone calls but he finally picked up, much to the relief of the Seahawks’ front office which was in full panic mode prior to hearing his voice.

This is funny looking back, I’m sure, but I can only imagine how the front office was feeling when the clock was ticking down to about a minute left on their pick and they weren’t hearing back from their draftee. You have to imagine this happens rather frequently on draft day but rarely do you ever get an inside look at the chaos.

Don’t worry, Seattle, Walker will make up for this little scare with some touchdowns.
