Michigan State football has a number of incoming transfers who are ranked in 247Sports Transfer Portal Rankings but they’re too low.

Just one year ago, Michigan State football landed an impressive class of transfers which helped the program get out of the gutter, win 11 games, and make and win a New Year’s Six bowl for the first time since 2015.

Mel Tucker figured out how to rapidly turn a program around, using the transfer portal to his advantage.

And the Spartans had arguably the best and most impactful transfer in the country in Doak Walker Award winner Kenneth Walker III who rushed for over 1,600 yards and led the nation in a multitude of categories. He was joined by guys like Ronald Williams, Chester Kimbrough, Quavaris Crouch, Jarrett Horst, Maliq Carr, and Drew Jordan who all started games for the Spartans after transferring in last offseason.

Michigan State added eight more transfers for the 2022 season and 247Sports re-ranked all of the top players in the transfer portal on Tuesday.

Surprise, surprise: Michigan State’s transfers are all seemingly ranked too low.

First off, Ameer Speed isn’t even listed in the top 250 transfers and the top Spartan is ranked No. 83 overall. Illinois transfer tight end Daniel Barker is the top incoming MSU transfer at No. 83, followed by defensive end Khris Bogle from Florida at No. 88.

Jarek Broussard (Colorado) comes in at No. 102 and then fellow running back Jalen Berger (Wisconsin) is listed at No. 103. Right behind those two is linebacker Jacoby Windmon (UNLV) at No. 104. So that gives the Spartans four incoming transfers ranked in the top 105 in the country which isn’t bad, but it still seems a bit off. All of those guys are better than their rankings.

Linebacker Aaron Brule (Mississippi State) is ranked No. 110 and offensive lineman Brian Green (Washington State) was the last incoming transfer listed, coming in at No. 136.

There are maybe 1-2 fair rankings here, but I think by the end of the season, all of these guys will climb up in the transfer rankings based on production.
