Michigan State Football: 3 reasons for optimism after spring 2022
Spring ball is in the books and Michigan State football looks like a legit contender in the Big Ten. Here’s why you should be optimistic heading into the summer.
Spring ball is in the books and Michigan State football fans have a better idea of what to expect from the Spartans in 2022.
After an 11-2 season that ended with a Peach Bowl win in 2021, expectations are incredibly high, and rightfully so. Mel Tucker raised the bar in East Lansing and now fans are expecting Big Ten title and College Football Playoff contention.
But will that happen this season?
Why should Michigan State fans be optimistic after spring ball?
3. Mel Tucker is already looking to bolster that offensive line
If you were disappointed that Michigan State didn’t have an actual scrimmage to close out spring ball, you’re not alone. But you can also blame the lack of healthy players along the offensive line.
Michigan State simply did not have the healthy bodies up front to give fans a real glimpse into what we can expect next season. We wanted to see a legit scrimmage, but the Spartans’ depth in the trenches was just lacking, but Mel Tucker is already working to change that.
For one, the Spartans will be healthier by fall camp, and two, Tucker is working to bring in another lineman via the portal. He already has Washington State transfer Brian Greene lined up to join the team this summer but he’s also trying to pick up another big body in a guy like South Carolina’s Juzston Turnetine.
Tucker addressing a need via the portal and doubling down after spring ball is refreshing and should have fans optimistic about improvement up front.
