Michigan State football pushing for South Carolina OL transfer Jazston Turnetine
Michigan State football is making a serious run at South Carolina offensive line transfer Jazston Turnetine. He’ll be visiting next week.
With likely just one spot left for a transfer ahead of the 2022 season, Michigan State football coach Mel Tucker is hard at work trying to add depth to his offensive line.
In case you didn’t hear about it by now, Michigan State wasn’t able to have a live scrimmage for the annual spring game, but rather an open practice because there weren’t enough healthy linemen to participate. This obviously raised some concerns.
Because of this, Tucker turned his attention to the transfer portal once spring ball was in the books and a player who has really caught his eye is former JUCO All-American and South Carolina Gamecock Jazston Turnetine. He transferred to South Carolina before the 2020 season from the JUCO ranks and started 10 games at left tackle for the Gamecocks in 2021.
This would be a massive addition — literally. Turnetine is 6-foot-7 and 342 pounds and he would be just what the Spartans’ offensive line needs, especially after losing AJ Arcuri to the NFL. The line would actually look like a strength heading into next season.
Brian Greene is already transferring in from Washington State and he’ll be joining the team this summer. He’s projected to play on the interior of the offensive line. Add in Turnetine at tackle and Michigan State has three former transfers starting up front with Jarrett Horst and Greene joining the former South Carolina tackle.
Not too shabby.
And then there will be some depth and plenty of talent which will give Chris Kapilovic his best group of linemen since he took over as Michigan State’s offensive line coach.
Add Turnetine and the 2022 outlook looks even brighter for Michigan State.
