As spring ball comes to a close, Michigan State football has a better idea of what it has to work with for the 2022 season.

Mel Tucker’s second official spring with Michigan State football is in the books and the optimism surrounding the program is at an all-time high.

A few years ago, there was a sense of doubt about the future of the football program, but even after Mark Dantonio’s forgettable final couple of seasons and sudden retirement, Tucker has found a way to bring life back to the green and white. The program has juice and that was evident during spring ball.

Michigan State wrapped up spring ball with some momentum and major publications are all ranking the Spartans in their post-spring top 25 projections.

Let’s dive into some key takeaways from spring ball.

3. Depth on the offensive line might be an issue

Not being able to field a live scrimmage was a little concerning because of the injuries piling up on the offensive line which means that the depth is probably not where Mel Tucker and Chris Kapilovic would like it.

A handful of key players on the line were out to end the spring and that’s not the best sign heading into the summer, but it’s an opportunity for these guys to get healthy.

The addition of Brian Greene from Washington State through the portal will be a welcomed sight along with the return of Jarrett Horst who considered moving on and Matt Carrick who was injured last year. The line has the potential to be much more solid than it was a season ago, but it needs to maybe add one final transfer portal player and also get healthy.

The depth right now is a concern.
