Where Michigan State football stands in early post-spring 2022 Top 25s
Spring ball is in the books and Michigan State football has a better idea of how it’ll look this fall. Where do some have the Spartans ranked?
Mel Tucker and Michigan State football have wrapped up a relatively successful spring. It wasn’t fully successful because the health wasn’t where he would have hoped, but no one was seriously injured and the newcomers all got acclimated to the roster.
We weren’t able to see a normal Green-White Game to close out the spring because there just weren’t enough bodies to field two teams on the line, but there was still plenty to be optimistic about.
For one, the linebackers are going to be really good and the defense should undoubtedly improve as a whole. And secondly, the offense has no shortage of weapons, and a more experience Payton Thorne is bad news for the rest of the Big Ten.
A couple of major publications and experts have released their post-spring Top 25 rankings even with one final weekend of spring games taking place, so let’s take a look at where the Spartans stand in both

Michigan State received favorable rankings in these post-spring Top 25s.
- 247Sports has the Spartans ranked No. 13 but it also stated that Michigan State would have been ranked in the top 10 had one of their voters not left it off the ballot completely.
- ESPN is actually very high on the Spartans after spring ball. The worldwide leader in sports had Michigan State No. 10 in their way-too-early rankings right after the season but moved the Spartans up to No. 8. They praised the additions at running back, linebacker, and cornerback, stating that the newcomers will make MSU a contender.
