Michigan State basketball “looking into” Oakland transfer Micah Parrish
Michigan State basketball is reportedly “looking into” Oakland transfer Micah Parrish to join the roster for 2022-23. He could be a nice wing addition.
After watching Julius Marble hit the portal and Gabe Brown, Marcus Bingham, and Max Christie enter the NBA draft, every Michigan State basketball fan has been hoping for Tom Izzo to do something in the transfer portal.
Then the one player in the portal who was connected to Michigan State — Jalen Bridges — committed to Baylor on Wednesday.
Panic mode had set in for many Spartan fans.
But Izzo isn’t just standing pat. He is looking in the portal for another wing and (hopefully) a center and a name that has emerged on that front is Oakland transfer Micah Parrish, according to Justin Thind.
Parrish can play on the wing which would be a nice addition with both Gabe Brown and Christie (potentially) moving on. He is a solid shooter who can score at all three levels and actually played well against Michigan State earlier this season, scoring 19 points with eight boards on 5-of-8 shooting. He also knows how to get to the free throw line where he shoots 80 percent.
The freshman averaged 12.1 points and 6.0 rebounds while shooting 44 percent from the floor and 35 percent from deep in 2021-22. He utilized a COVID year and averaged 8.8 points and 5.8 rebounds as a true freshman in 2020-21.
While this is a good sign that Izzo is looking to bolster that roster for next season, it’s still just the first step and maybe this means that Christie is more likely to leave than to come back.
Either way, it’s good to see Izzo active in the portal.
