Kenneth Walker III went from a relatively unknown transfer into a household name, winning multiple awards. Who is next for Michigan State football?

In 2021, Kenneth Walker III went from a relatively unknown transfer from Wake Forest into a household name, winning the Doak Walker and Walter Camp awards. One year later, Michigan State football finds itself without a running back yet again as Walker is in the middle of draft preparations where he projects as a second-round pick.

Walker was one of the most dynamic players in all of college football last fall, as his accolades preach. From his first touch against Northwestern until his final game against Penn State, K9 turned Michigan State into a contender each week.

Michigan State’s success usually correlates with their running back room, as evidenced by Lorenzo White to Javon Ringer to Jeremy Langford to LJ Scott.

Now let’s look at the candidates to succeed Walker as the next Spartan running back. While nothing is set in stone, coach Mel Tucker has been very complimentary of the room and there will be a lot to break down after Saturday.

In addition to the loss of Walker, a lot of the most experienced members of the offensive line have moved on, with AJ Arcuri, Blake Bueter, Matt Allen, Luke Campbell, and Kevin Jarvis all gone from the program. The room needs a player who can elude would-be tacklers and not be afraid of contact, and I have a good idea of who to turn to on this roster.

Let’s preview the running back battle ahead of the spring game.
