Michigan State football is looking to fill maybe one more spot in the transfer portal and that could be reserved for a guy like Amarius Mims.
Spring ball is almost over and that means we’re going to hear more about the transfer portal soon as guys find out where they stand on the latest depth chart.
Michigan State football likely has another spot available after landing a number of instant-impact guys in the portal this offseason and Mel Tucker is going to be very selective. There’s a big name that just entered the portal and the Spartans could be a player for his services: Amarius Mims.
Mims was ranked the No. 8 overall recruit in the 2021 class as a five-star and he was also the third-best offensive tackle, according to the composite. He announced his transfer this past weekend and SpartanTailgate reported that Michigan State will “very likely” be pursuing him.

Was projected as a future 1st-round NFL draft pick by 247Sports coming out of high school last year. He was UGA’s 6th OL as a true freshman.

Mims, a native of Cochran, Ga., decided to switch things up and it’s been rumored that Florida State and Miami could be serious contenders here and there’s a very small chance he transfers to an SEC school because, per the rule and deadline by the conference, he’d have to sit out in 2022.
Michigan State needs some offensive line help and adding a guy who could start immediately at tackle and thrive would be a huge move. The Spartans already added Brian Greene from Washington State and Jarrett Horst returns, but Mims would be a massive addition and he’d almost surely be a starting tackle on that line.
It’s still too early to tell if Michigan State is a serious player here, but involving the NIL in some way would be important, and trying to reel him away from Florida State and Miami will be tough.
