Michigan State football is in the middle of spring ball and there are a number of storylines to keep an eye on. What should we be watching for?

Spring ball is finally here and the center of attention as the basketball season has come to an end. The weather is warming up and there’s just an extra buzz in the air with Michigan State football returning.

Mel Tucker just finished his second season and he led the Spartans to a New Year’s Six bowl — and win — as well as an 11-2 overall record and top-10 finish. They were one of the most surprising teams in the country and it’s pretty clear that he’s building something special in East Lansing.

With April upon us, it’s time to think spring game and the storylines leading up to it.

5. Offensive line progression

This one is going to be interesting simply because the line was very average last season, at best, but I’m afraid that we might have to wait until the summer and fall camp to know more about this group.

The health of the offensive line this spring is concerning as there are only a handful of guys suited up, but this is still a position group to monitor heading into the summer.

Will there be any younger guys stepping up to take one of the starting spots like Geno VanDeMark or Spencer Brown? Or will it be all veterans showing improvement up front to provide some offensive stability and a positive outlook?

Either way, I’m interested to hear what Chris Kapilovic has to say about this group after spring ball and I want to see how they perform on April 16.
