Michigan State Football: Jayden Reed dubbed best WR in nation by NFL star
Jayden Reed is one of the best receivers in college football. One NFL star, however, called the Michigan State football standout the nation’s best.
The moment Jayden Reed announced he was coming back for one final season with Michigan State football, thoughts immediately turned to Big Ten Receiver of the Year and Biletnikoff Award contention.
Reed broke out as a freshman with Western Michigan back in 2018, catching 56 passes for 797 yards and eight touchdowns and Mark Dantonio wasted little time getting him in East Lansing with his former high school teammate and quarterback Payton Thorne.
The former Freshman All-American had to sit out the 2019 season and then got his first action in the green and white under a new head coach (Mel Tucker) in 2020. He had his struggles but ultimately finished strong with 33 catches for 407 yards and three scores. He was still adjusting to the Big Ten and he needed one season under his belt to fully acclimate.
It was clear that he was Big Ten-ready in 2021 as a full-time starter and go-to receiver, catching 59 passes for 1,026 yards and 10 touchdowns, becoming Michigan State’s first 1,000-yard receiver since Aaron Burbridge back in 2015. Now, he comes back looking to record back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons and rise up the all-time receiving list at Michigan State.
Some experts are talking about him being one of the nation’s top returning receivers in 2022 and Pro Football Focus posed the question “any other college receivers that everyone needs to quit sleepin’ on?”
NFL star and former Northwestern standout Greg Newsome II quoted it saying that Reed is the best receiver in college football.
Newsome was an All-American cornerback for Northwestern in 2020 and a first-team All-Big Ten selection before getting selected in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns. If he says that one of his former opponents is the best in college football, you should probably listen.
This is massive praise for Reed and it just makes his 2022 outlook even more intriguing.
