Michigan State basketball is going to be active in the transfer portal this offseason and Terrence Shannon Jr. is emerging as a target.

A couple of days ago, I wrote about how Michigan State should target Texas Tech wing transfer and he’d be the ideal addition from the portal with Gabe Brown moving on.

There’s also a chance Joey Hauser could be gone which opens another spot on the roster and with Marcus Bingham Jr. also departing, Michigan State has a handful of open scholarships to deal out.

Shannon could be one of the recipients of a scholarship from Tom Izzo and it seems like that may be closer to happening than we thought just last week.

On Sunday, it was reported that Michigan State was one of the seven teams to reach out to Shannon in his first 48 hours in the portal.

Illinois is a top contender here and Michigan is also a name to watch because Juwan Howard has been active in the portal since taking over. Kentucky will always be a threat with top players and North Carolina, UConn, and Missouri are also interesting options.

But Michigan State can almost guarantee a starting spot or, at the very least, starter’s minutes in East Lansing.

Brown’s departure means that Michigan State will need another scorer on the wing from the portal and Shannon can provide just that. He averaged 10.4 points this season despite suffering through some injuries and 12.9 last year while shooting around 45 percent from the floor. He also approached the 40 percent mark from deep this season which is something Izzo looks for.

Replacing Brown with Shannon would be a massive win for Izzo this offseason.
