Michigan State basketball is reportedly going to be heavily involved in the transfer portal and Utah Valley’s Fardaws Aimaq should be a top target.

Just a day after losing in heartbreaking fashion to Duke in the NCAA Tournament’s second round, Justin Thind of 247Sports reported that Michigan State basketball would be active in the transfer portal this offseason.

That opened up a realm of possibilities for the Spartans with likely 3-4 open spots heading into next season. They could lose three seniors and had open spots on the roster this year.

Michigan State brings in a two-man 2022 recruiting class of Tre Holloman and Jaxon Koehler but if all three seniors leave, it could have at least three open spots. That means that Tom Izzo could go after a few transfers and it’s already been reported that he’s reached out to West Virginia’s Jalen Bridges, a redshirt sophomore wing.

But there’s another name who is garnering a ton of interest from the nation’s top programs and I think he’d be a perfect fit for Michigan State: Fardaws Aimaq.

The Utah Valley big man was named the WAC Player of the Year in 2021-22 as well as the league’s defensive player of the year. A big who can score at will (18.9 points) and plays elite defense? That’s music to Michigan State fans’ ears after watching Julius Marble struggle defensively this season and Marcus Bingham Jr. show inconsistencies on offense.

Aimaq would be a godsend for the Spartans who are in desperate need of a center.

The Utah Valley transfer has heard from dozens of programs since entering the portal but Michigan State has yet to reach out (as of Monday night). He would be the perfect fit in a lineup that seems to only be missing a center and possibly another scorer on the wing.

A lineup with Aimaq, AJ Hoggard, Tyson Walker, Max Christie, and Malik Hall would be fun to watch next season with a heck of a bench of Marble, Pierre Brooks, Holloman, Jaden Akins, Koehler, and Mady Sissoko. This team has plenty of potential but adding Aimaq could make it a serious national title contender.

Next. Way-too-early projected starting 5 for 2022-23. dark
