It may sound crazy, but Michigan State basketball could make a legitimate Final Four run this March. Here’s why you shouldn’t count the Spartans out.

Tom Izzo is no stranger to Final Four runs. It doesn’t ever really matter what seed Michigan State basketball earns, Izzo is the caliber of coach who makes every single one of his squads tough outs during the NCAA Tournament.

When you make the tourney basically every year (24 in a row), you’re bound to upset some teams on the way to the Final Four. That’s why Michigan State leads college basketball in tourney upsets.

Izzo will have to pick up more upsets this season as he’s in the same region as Duke and Gonzaga which could make this a tough road to a Final Four and it would be one of his most impressive feats ever.

Here’s why the Spartans could (yes, they could) make a Final Four run.

3. Michigan State has depth

When you look at teams that make deep NCAA Tournament runs over the years, they usually have some solid depth at all positions. Michigan State has just that.

Since the beginning of the year, it’s been obvious that Michigan State has a deep roster.

Even in the post with guys like Marcus Bingham Jr., Malik Hall, Julius Marble, Joey Hauser, and sometimes even Mady Sissoko, Michigan State can wear teams down. On the perimeter, the Spartans have three guys who can handle the ball in Tyson Walker, AJ Hoggard, and Jaden Akins. Heck, even Max Christie can bring it up the court.

On the wing, there’s Christie and Gabe Brown and Pierre Brooks and Akins can come off the bench to play there as well. Michigan State is about 10 guys deep on a regular basis and sometimes that can even turn into 11 or 12.

A deep team can wear teams down in March.
