1. Michigan State makes a run to the semifinals

The path that Michigan State would have to the semifinals after missing out on a double-bye is somewhat favorable.

The Spartans will get Maryland on Thursday night which is a rematch of the two regular-season meetings in which Michigan State went 2-0. They actually saw Maryland on Sunday and dominated, for the most part, ending with a double-digit win on Senior Day after jumping out to an 18-1 lead in the first few minutes.

Michigan State will get out to a quick start again and beat the Terrapins in a close one to advance to the quarterfinals against Wisconsin. With Jonny Davis not quite at full-strength after an injury he suffered against Nebraska which knocked him out of the game last Sunday, the Spartans will have an advantage here. They’ve beaten the Badgers before and they’ll shock the top seed again.

This win will get Michigan State to the semifinals, facing either Purdue or Ohio State. If it’s Purdue, I see the Boilermakers winning the rematch to get to the championship and if it’s the Buckeyes, I think the Spartans actually pull it off. However, I think Purdue will beat the Buckeyes to face MSU.

Michigan State’s road will end in the semifinals, but this nice little run will give the Spartans confidence heading into the NCAA Tournament.
