With a lot of receiver talent joining Michigan State football, who will the starters be in 2022? Will it be all vets or some freshmen?

Michigan State is going to have a lot of incoming wide receivers joining the team for the 2022 season. So I wanted to take a deeper look into who I believe the three main wideouts will be by the time fall rolls around.

1. Jayden Reed

The No. 1 should come as no surprise to anyone. Jayden Reed was one of the biggest factors to the Spartans’ success in 2022. He closed out his 2021 campaign racking up 1,026 yards on 59 receptions and totaled 10 touchdowns.

Reed was Payton Thorne’s favorite target all year, and reasonably so. Reed is one of the most athletic receivers you will watch and though he is not a giant, only standing at 6-foot-0, he wins a lot of 50/50 balls which makes him a massive threat when the opposing defensive backs have to cover him. Reed has a great combination of speed, strength, athleticism, and hands.

With Reed returning for one more year, it’s going to mean he’ll be able to help all the young talent on the roster be ready to fill the gap that will be left by him when he decides to go pro. Reed had a huge role in last year’s gameplan and now without Kenneth Walker being the main focus, I have a feeling he will probably be more closely looked at by opposing teams. Let’s just hope he can be just as good or better than he was in 2021 and hopefully lead the Spartans to a potential Big Ten title.

2. Tre Mosley

Next on my list, I have Tre Mosely. He was the Spartans’ WR3 last season behind Reed and Jalen Nailor but now with the latter declaring for the NFL draft, he’s going to have to step up and I think he is more than ready to do just that.

Last season, Mosley had 530 yards and three touchdowns on 35 catches. But those numbers don’t do justice on just how good he is. Mosley has good size, good hands, and he’s strong for a receiver. Also, keep in mind he was normally the third option so he was never targeted as much as he probably will be next year.

On the plays where we saw the ball go to Mosley, he created a lot of separation and as I stated really strong hands so if he got both on the pigskin, he was more than likely going to catch it.

Mosley was one of the most underrated players last year and I think a lot of fans need to remember him and start knowing him more now because with a bigger role in the offense; I can see great things happening with Tre.

3. Germie Bernard

The final player I have on my list is going to be incoming freshman Germie Bernard who’s a four-star receiver from Nevada. He could be the next big wideout at Michigan State.

He has not played a college game yet so this is a flyer pick but when you watch tape of him, you can just tell he is special and can make a huge impact for the Spartans in 2022.

Bernard has a very strong lower body and creates a lot of separation right off the line. In addition to that, he has great body control and has no problem beating defenders over the top. He also has decent speed for being 6-foot-2, 195 pounds.

Though there is room for improvement in this category, with the right coaching and training we could be seeing an all-American wide receiver in East Lansing.
