Michigan State Basketball: 3 quick thoughts on ugly loss to Wisconsin
By Nate Rhoades
2. Consistently inconsistent
Tom Izzo has said it best in many of his press conferences. This year’s Spartan team is consistently inconsistent. They is how the last seven games have gone and the Wisconsin contest just showed that once again.
Malik Hall is one of those players who has been consistently inconsistent all year. He will be quiet one game and not give much of anything to the result and than the next game he will be roaring with energy and give life to the Spartan team.
Hall is a leader and has been slowing turning into the go-to guy. He needs to find consistency and get to the spots on the floor he likes best. To elevate his game, though, he has to see the double-team coming and prepare for it. Hall loves to get the ball on the baseline and hit a fading jumper over the defender. He’s so good at that and so recently the defense has seen this and started to send a second guy to help. Hall has to prepare for this double and not let that second guy trap him.
With how good of a shooting team this is, it has not shown it every game. One game they will make most shots and the next they cannot buy a basket. They need to find their rhythm and play their game; let the game come to them and not force things up.
With only a month left until the Big Dance, Michigan State has to find its consistency or it will be another early exit from the tournament.
