Michigan State vs Wisconsin Prediction

The Spartans have been an excellent at home this year, with a 9-1 record, and they beat this same Badgers squad just a few weeks ago in Wisconsin behind a stellar shooting performance. Michigan State is shooting 40.2% from beyond the arc in Big Ten play and have the 9th-best 3-point shooting percentage in the country on the year.

After starting the year red hot, the Badgers have fallen back down to earth. They’ve failed to cover the spread in five straight games while Naismith Player of the Year candidate Johnny Davis has struggled, shooting just 2/13 from the field in Wisconsin’s previous game and 5/19 in the game before that.

The Badgers protect the ball well with the lowest offensive turnover rate in the country, but if Davis isn’t shooting well they have a lot of trouble scoring. They rank just 268th nationally in effective field goal percentage and face a Spartans defense that boasts the 56th-lowest defensive 2-point shooting percentage and 33rd-lowest 3-point shooting percentage.

Michigan State has advantages in offense, defense and rebounding, but they’ll need to be careful with turnovers. By the ball over on 20.5% of their possessions, the Spartans can give teams easy baskets in transition if they’re sloppy.

Despite a sterling 9-1 overall record, Michigan State is just 2-5 against the spread (ATS) in their last seven home games. Five of those games had double digit spreads though, and I like the Spartans to lock in defensively and complete a season-sweep of Wisconsin.

I’ll take Michigan State -4 (-110) as they come out furious from their huge loss to Rutgers. Just 1.5 games behind the Big Ten Conference lead, the Spartans know a win over a sputtering Badgers squad could help propel them to a conference title.
