Michigan State football continues to add to its coaching staff with big names. The Spartans continue to do that by adding DL coach Marco Coleman.

As Mel Tucker continues to build his roster he is also working hard on creating the best coaching staff possible for Michigan State football, recently adding a coach like Brandon Jordan. Now, Mel is rumored to have added DL coach Marco Coleman to his amazing staff.

There have been rumors swirling the last few days that Coleman was leaving Georgia Tech to go to Michigan State. But now being reported by multiple sources that the move is happening and all that’s left is for papers to be signed.

Who is Marco Coleman?

Coleman, as of late, has been the defensive line coach at Georgia Tech. Before that, though he was the assistant DL coach for the Raiders back in 2018 as well as coaching the defense at a high school and also being a part of the Eagles staff in 2017. He was also an NFL player. Coleman was in the NFL for 14 years and played linebacker and defensive end and played on six different teams, racking up 65.5 sacks,

This is a really big hire for Tucker and the Spartans. Now pairing a well-respected defensive line coach with another intriguing new hire in Jordan, the Spartans’ defensive line is gonna be coached very well. In addition to that, it shows that coaches around the nation are starting to see what Tucker is building in East Lansing and Coleman is a very good example of that.

Coleman played football for Georgia Tech. He holds many records at Georgia Tech, too, such as all-time sacks and tackles. During his time there, he also won a national championship when the Yellow Jackets went on to win it all in 1990. So the fact Tucker was able to convince him to leave the school that he is royalty in shows you that he sees Mel is building something really special in East Lansing and he wants to come and be a part of it and help build it and hopefully lead the Spartans to a title.

Lastly, Coleman will not only be good at coaching, but he will be very helpful when it comes to the recruiting process because of his NFL background and he’ll help recruit guys from bigger football states like Georgia and Florida. Because Coleman was a high school coach in Florida, he’s familiar with them. Coleman has shown he is a solid recruiter, helping Georgia land a four-star quarterback and land their highest-ranked defensive tackle class for 2022 thanks to Coleman. He was able to get guys like KJ Miles and Horace Lockett to commit to Georgia Tech over elite schools like Alabama, Georgia, and other top schools in the nation.

Once this move becomes official, it will be an even better day to be a Spartan because we are just watching the beginning of the Tucker era in East Lansing and this is his third year, too, and if we can expect moves like this for the rest of his time at Michigan State, this program will be something like we have never seen it before.
