Michigan State football targeting Colorado RB transfer Jarek Broussard
Michigan State football is looking to the portal to potentially add another running back in Colorado transfer Jarek Broussard.
Two years ago, Mel Tucker was leaving Colorado after just one season in which the Buffaloes went 5-7 and fans were optimistic about the future. The Colorado players and fans were shocked and many of them spoke out about the move, but the new Michigan State football coach couldn’t say no to the massive contract the Spartans offered.
Fast forward to the 2021 season and Michigan State went 11-2 with a Peach Bowl win over Pitt and Tucker inked a massive 10-year, $95 million contract extension.
Tucker is going to be in East Lansing for a while, especially if he continues to recruit at a high level — and that includes hitting the transfer portal hard.
His latest portal target is a familiar name from Colorado who clearly wasn’t too upset to burn bridges with Tucker following his departure. Jarek Broussard was redshirting during Tucker’s lone season at Colorado but won Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year in 2020.
Broussard totaled over 1,500 rushing yards and 146 receiving yards with seven total touchdowns in his two years with the Buffaloes.
Broussard being targeted by Michigan State football
On Monday, it was reported that Broussard would be in East Lansing for a visit on Jan. 28.
While Michigan State already landed a running back in the portal in Jalen Berger from Wisconsin, Tucker clearly wants to add another talented rusher in order to adequately replace Kenneth Walker III — which won’t be easy.
A backfield with Berger and Broussard would arguably be the best duo in the Big Ten. It would give the Spartans two proven backs who have had success at the Power Five level.
Broussard would be an excellent addition as he rushed for over 800 yards on 5.7 yards per attempt in 2020 when he won the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year award.
While he doesn’t quite have the breakaway speed you’d like to see from a lead back, he has excellent vision and doesn’t shy away from contact. Given a quality offensive line, he could be a 1,000-yard rusher in the Big Ten.
Imagine a one-two punch with Broussard and Berger. Not too shabby.
