Michigan State basketball has gotten off to a hot start to its 2021-22 season. What could happen in the month of January with this surprising team?

We are officially entering a new year and Michigan State basketball still has all of its goals still ahead of it. The Spartans are 11-2 heading into Big Ten play on Jan. 2 at Northwestern and they’re looking like the second-best team in the conference behind Purdue.

You could say that Illinois and Ohio State are right up there with teams like Wisconsin, Minnesota, Indiana, and Michigan right there in that next group.

But if all goes as planned, Michigan State will be hoisting up another Big Ten title trophy when the regular season is over but that’s way too far in the future to even worry about as the calendar has officially turned over to January and conference play is just starting.

Let’s dive into some bold predictions for the month of January.

5. Tyson Walker averages over 10 points per game

On the season, Tyson Walker is averaging 7.0 points and 5.3 assists per game and I think he improves on those numbers to start Big Ten play.

In the four games before struggling against High Point, Walker was averaging 11.5 points and 7.0 assists per game while shooting 6-for-11 from the floor. He looked like a maturing offensive threat and it was something that this offense needed to really take that next step.

I think he continues that trend in the month of January, averaging over 10 points per game and I’d put my money on him averaging over six assists as well.

It’ll be a big month for Walker and he’s just gaining some confidence which is bad news for the rest of the conference.
