Michigan State football has had an eventful Early Signing Day but the commitment of Florida transfer Khris Bogle was a pleasant surprise.

What a day it’s been for Michigan State football fans. We expected a big day for the Spartans but it has met and possibly even exceeded expectations thus far.

Early Signing Day has been a success for Mel Tucker and the Spartans due to most of the 2022 commits signing and making it official but also a couple of top targets have committed.

Things got kicked off a day early as three-star safety Malcolm Jones committed to Michigan State just a day after decommitting from Virginia Tech. It was essentially a flip and a big one because the Spartans desperately need defensive back help.

The Spartans then landed three-star Caleb Coley on Wednesday morning as he signed with the green and white and then Mel Tucker announced at his signing day presser that Zion Youn, a three-star defensive end target, signed with Michigan State over Missouri.

But there was another defensive end who stole the spotlight on Wednesday as Florida defensive end transfer Khris Bogle committed to Michigan State over Kentucky.

There was talk of Bogle either picking Kentucky or going back to Florida after the Gators hired Billy Napier to replace Dan Mullen, but Mel Tucker closed another recruitment.

Bogle will be an important Michigan State football transfer

It’s tough to really tell which transfers are going to have immediate impacts (look at last year’s class) but I get the feeling that Bogle is going to be one of the most important newcomers from the portal.

Michigan State needs a pass rush and Bogle brings that as he had 10 tackles for loss and seven sacks in his Florida career before entering the portal.

The former top-100 recruit has plenty of talent but now he’s going to be a focal point of Michigan State’s defense and he should be a projected starter heading into the 2022 season. Having two athletic players like Bogle and Tank Brown book-ending the defensive line will be huge for the pass rush in 2022.

Let’s hope this isn’t the only Michigan State recruiting win over Kentucky on Wednesday.

Folks, Mel is a closer.
